Before the modern miracle of air conditioning, fortunate New Orleanians would escape the summer heat to the breezy northern shore of Lake Pontchartrain and villages like Mandeville, Madisonville, Covington and Abita Springs nestled along the Tchefuncte, Abita, and Bogue Falaya rivers.
An early advertising campaign beckoned visitors to the area by offering adventure and relaxation along these waterways, calling it “Louisiana’s Easy Escape.”
After the completion of the causeway bridge, these tiny towns grew into the large community we know today as part of the greater New Orleans metro and simply call The Northshore.
The other side of the lake is the other side of New Orleans; enjoy exploring this other side with these oil on canvas waterscapes of Louisiana’s Easy Escape.
